PAST—PRESENT—FUTURE FORMS: workshop and lecture for LUCA School of Arts in Genk, Belgium

In March 2025 Studio Nicky Vollebregt hosted a workshop and lecture on emotionally sustainable design at LUCA School of Arts in Genk, Belgium. During the PAST—PRESENT—FUTURE FORMS workshop, seventeen Product Design students explored material characteristics and object interactions by playfully mapping out, categorizing and interpreting signs of use and aging in second-hand furniture. Together, we analyzed materials beyond their ‘new’ state, encouraging fresh perspectives on working with materials, textures, colors, and forms. The workshop was followed by a lecture that expanded on the theme, presenting insights from the studio’s individual and collaborative explorations alongside inspiring examples from design and beyond.
